Cholesterol And Common Foods To Avoid

Written by Kirk on November 4th, 2011

When we hear someone say, cholesterol, the ideas that come into our minds are all negative. Why not? TV shows and the media show how cholesterol can lead to fatal diseases of the heart and blame its components for the increase of fatalities in the elderly today. But did you know that our body needs cholesterol in our body. The liver and intestines produce cholesterol naturally which is used in the blood plasma and the permeability of cell membranes. Our whole body is composed primarily of cells and the permeable and fluid membrane helps in the filtering of chemicals and components that goes it and out of the cells. Cholesterol also helps in the manufacture of vitamin D, steroid hormones and bile acids. But although it does help us in our everyday lives, it is often coined negatively as the major cause of heart diseases today.

All things, when taken excessively, destroy the overall health of our body. Researches lead to the conclusion that a high level of cholesterol in the blood system damages the arteries. Over consumption of foods rich in cholesterol thickens the walls of the arteries which lead to fatal diseases like heart attack, stroke and blood clots. Because cholesterol is already produced by our organs for the manufacture uses, consumption of added cholesterol intake leads to these diseases. This is how dietitians and doctors advise people not to overtake cholesterol-rich foods. One of the three paths that are explained to promote a cholesterol-free is diet by avoiding saturated fat and trans-fat that is found in processed food these days. High cholesterol foods to avoid include eggs, meat, some poultry, dairy products, cooking oil, sweet delicacies and most toppings and dressings.

There are times that we simply cannot stop craving for a pastry or a beef steak. This is acceptable that in a week, you eat foods like these. Limiting the amount of fatty foods is the key to lower cholesterol. An egg, which is a basic part of most recipes, should only be taken also in moderation. This means that in a single day, one whole egg average consumption is the limit. For recipes that could not be lessened of eggs, an egg substitute should be considered or better yet create a new recipe that does not include it. For poultries and meat, the key to a healthier body is avoiding the fatty meat areas. Even though these parts are more often the favorite, taking it in small amounts or purely avoiding it is a must. Chicken meat and turkey is part of the leaner meat diet. And as much as you can, avoid the skin because it contains most of the fat. All in all, prevention is still way better than cure in all diseases.
